As part of Presby's Inspired Life new Medical Center Addition, McCloskey and Faber was tasked to coordinate the design of a therapeutic rooftop Wandering Courtyard connecting to the fifth floor memory support unit. The design was to establish an outdoor space accessible by patients to allow physical movement and help connect senses with memories through familiar sounds, materials, and landscape features. Raised planting beds, sitting benches, a water fountain, birdhouse, bird bath, natural stone, a wooden arbor, and natural paving materials all help to restore connections with common and pleasant memories. A glass partition railing surrounds the roof edge to provide a seamless transition to environment beyond the courtyard. The green roof design was managed by our own Chris Isenberg, RLA, a certified Green Roof Professional through Green Roofs for Healthy Cities.
